While some studies have shown a link between insufficient sleep and the risk of cognitive impairment and dementia, other studies have failed to find a similar association between sleep duration and cognitive function.

A new study published in the Journal of the American Heart AssociationTrusted Sourceshows that individuals with high blood pressure who also slept for a shorter duration were more likely to show poor cognitive function and increased levels of markers of brain aging and injury. Individuals who slept for a shorter duration but had normal blood pressure did not show these deficits in cognitive function or increased levels of brain injury markers.
