Modern oncology can help people live far longer. How do we make that time livable?
In Greek mythology, the goddess Eos falls in love with Tithonus, a mortal prince of Troy. She asks Zeus to grant him immortality — but forgets to ask for eternal youth.
It is a small omission with devastating consequences. Tithonus lives on, but not well. His muscles waste, his mind dulls, his body collapses inward until only a voice remains, thin and disembodied. Immortal, but not quite alive.
