By Nature – Mount Sianai Icahn School of Medicine –

Ageing is as certain as the sunrise, but science is beginning to challenge what that certainty really means. At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) in New York City, researchers are reframing ageing as a process that can be slowed, managed, and even modified. Their goal is to extend the number of years lived in robust health.

At the heart of this effort is Mount Sinai’s Aging Program, where a multidisciplinary team led by Miriam Merad, Zahi Fayad, and Fanny Elahi, is working to understand and intervene in the biological processes that drive ageing. Each brings a different lens: Merad explores the immune system and inflammation; Fayad investigates lifestyle behaviours and uses multimodal digital, blood marker, physical function, and imaging assessments to study long-term health; and Elahi focuses on how ageing affects the brain and its blood vessels.
