At 71, Dr. Eric Topol is living proof that aging well isn’t just about luck. The founder of the Scripps Research Translational Institute says his Oura Ring shows a heart age of 58, which is 13 years younger than his chronological age. “It felt pretty good to see that,” Topol told The Telegraph. “I’m not trying to be a bodybuilder; I just want to live and age well.”
In his new book, Super Agers: An Evidence-Based Approach to Longevity, Topol argues that genetics play a smaller role in healthy aging than most think. Instead, he credits daily habits—exercise, sleep, diet, and strong social ties—for adding years of vitality. “We have more agency over our health than we realize,” he said to The Telegraph. “If we make the right changes, we can gain an extra 10 or 20 years of healthy aging.”
