Thomas C. Tubon, PhD

Dr. Thomas Tubon has been a transformative leader in Education, Workforce Development, and Diversification for over two decades. In his current role as Executive Director of the Technology Career Institute at MiraCosta College, he spearheads innovative, industry-driven workforce development and community education initiatives, particularly within the life sciences and emerging technology sectors.
Dr. Tubon most recently served as the Chief Workforce Development Officer for the BioIndustrial Manufacturing and Design Ecosystem (BioMADE) Manufacturing Institute, where he provided strategic direction and administrative oversight in the launch of national educational initiatives aimed at enhancing workforce capacity and capabilities in the bioindustrial manufacturing sector. Before his tenure with BioMADE, Dr. Tubon was a Professor in the Biotechnology Program at Madison College for 13 years, where he led several National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE) initiatives. These initiatives promoted education and training programs in the life sciences, with a focus on developing workforce solutions and strategic interdisciplinary programs that were scalable at local, regional, and national levels. Dr. Tubon was also instrumental in cultivating a broad network of industry, community, and academic stakeholders to advance career pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Dr. Tubon’s research experience spans over a decade at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he conducted impactful translational research in Neuroscience, Neurological Diseases and Disorders, and Regenerative Medicine.
His dedication to public service is further reflected in his roles as Co-Principal Investigator on the NSF ATE InnovATEBIO Center for Biotechnology Education and as a member of the leadership team for the NSF Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) Center, where he contributed to workforce development and strategic partnership efforts. Dr. Tubon holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from Stony Brook University and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, as well as a BS in Molecular Biology from San Diego State University.
